George Cleverley, born on August 10, 1898, into a London shoemaking family, spent his childhood in Essex selling bootlaces and polish. After completing his apprenticeship at 15, he served in World War I, working at an army boot factory in France. Post-war, he joined Tuczec, a prestigious shoemaker in Mayfair, where he worked for 38 years before founding G.J. Cleverley on Cork Street in 1958. Known for the iconic chisel-toed "Cleverley shape," he crafted shoes for society's elite. George worked until his death in 1991, aged 92. George Cleverley
ABOUT
George Cleverley, born on August 10, 1898, into a London shoemaking family, spent his childhood in Essex selling bootlaces and polish. After completing his apprenticeship at 15, he served in World War I, working at an army boot factory in France. Post-war, he joined Tuczec, a prestigious shoemaker in Mayfair, where he worked for 38 years before founding G.J. Cleverley on Cork Street in 1958. Known for the iconic chisel-toed "Cleverley shape," he crafted shoes for society's elite. George worked until his death in 1991, aged 92. Today, George Cleverley is still a family owned and operated business headed by Mr. George Glasgow Snr.
